Why May Day?

First, what is May Day? May Day 2012, is a day (May 5th) in which we set aside 4 hours (8 am -Noon) to serve the City of Kirkland. We serve the City of Kirkland by working in concert with the City of Kirkland Parks Dept. and help do maintenance and work on several downtown city parks.
Why?
Why May Day? This is an excellent way to show the city of Kirkland that we (as Christians) care about our city. We make a statement that we are not content to simply consume the city – driving in for worship and then leaving. May Day is underwritten by prayer. Many of our church members have committed to pray for streets within the city of Kirkland – God alone knows the details and needs. We serve the city to show the city that we love them in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Talk is Cheap
Common sense tells everyone that talk is cheap. People will know you care when you show you care. We can talk about loving the city to Jesus; however, until we actually serve the city in love (with no expectations or strings attached) it remains simply talk.
Pray for the City – God’s Idea
In the Old Testament Book of Jeremiah, The Prophet Jeremiah called the Israelites in exile to pray for the cities that
they found themselves in. To care about the cities that they were in. They were to be a witness to the glory of God – even in exile and under difficult circumstances. They were to be a redeeming presence in the city – carry forward life in God. We too have this opportunity, to offer Jesus Christ as the greatest satisfaction in life to the city in which we live and worship. Read Jeremiah 29 and in particular, verse 7 – ”Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile and pray to the Lord on it’s behalf; for in it’s welfare, you will have welfare.”
I invite you to join us for 4 hours on Saturday, May 5th as we work together with Eastside Christian Fellowship, The Journey Church, Christ Church of Kirkland and Life Community Church (All downtown Kirkland churches that love the Jesus Christ of the Bible) as we seek to serve the City of Kirkland in the name of Jesus Christ.
